OT & AI Literacy ToolBox is dedicated to empowering occupational therapy practitioners in rural areas by providing essential AI educational resources to improve their evidence-based and client-centered practice with ethical use of AI-enabled products. The mission is to support those who work with individuals living with dementia and care partners through a collaborative community, accessible learning, and valuable tools. ​

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 7.2 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s dementia. Dementia is characterized by a decline in memory, language, problem-solving, and other cognitive abilities that can significantly impact daily occupations and quality of life. Occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) often work with these clients to maintain functional status, modify the home environment, prevent falls, support medication management, and educate care partners.

Rural occupational therapy practitioners face additional geographic and resource-related challenges, including limited access to continuing education, healthcare services, and specialized dementia care. These barriers can make it more difficult for OTPs to access the resources and support needed to provide high-quality, client-centered care.
